These 3 energy hub models are for the design of a decentralised solar thermal heating system for 11 buildings. The models determine the optimal area of solar thermal collectors and auxiliary electric heaters that are required at each building in order to meet the space heating and domestic hot water loads. Depending on the model chosen, short-term and/or long-term thermal energy storage tanks are also sized in order to maximise the amount of solar energy that can be utilised by each building. The objective function is the minimisation of annual capital and operating costs, and CO2 emissions are controlled using a constraint that sets an upper bound on the allowable CO2 emissions in comparison to a reference case in which all thermal loads are supplied via an electric heater. The model has a 1 year time horizon that is composed of 8760 hourly time intervals. The 3 models are: 1) No Thermal Storage Tank (No thermal storage tanks), 2) One Thermal Storage Tank (Short-term only), 3) Two Thermal Storage Tanks (Short-term and Long-term)
