Overview

This page describes the data specification for technology data in the HUES platform. For an overview of the full HUES data specification, see the HUES data specification page.

Technology data in the HUES platform includes data concerning (1) energy conversion technologies, (2) energy storage technologies and (3) network technologies (links in a heat or electricity network).

Technology data can be added to the HUES platform by uploading an appropriately formatted CSV file using the upload page (accessible via the button below).

Formatting of a technology data file

A technology data file has at least 3 columns:

  1. Property: The relevant technology property (e.g. capacity, operational cost)
  2. Value: The value corresponding to the given property
  3. Units: The units corresponding to the given value and property (e.g. kW, CHF). As much as possible, these should be aligned with the HUES units specification.


It is also possible to upload multiple technology descriptions in a single file. In this case, the first column should contain the property description and the last column should contain the units. Each column in between should represent a single technology description.

The easiest way to create an appropriately formatted CSV file for upload is to start from one of the following template files:


The relevant properties for each technology type are described in the tables below.

Content of an energy conversion technology data CSV file

9 Installation cost Total cost of installation (including capital, labor, etc.) CHF
10 Operation cost Cost of operation per year CHF/year
11 Operation cost per kW Cost of operation per kW capacity CHF/(kW*year)
12 Maintenance cost Cost of maintenance per year CHF/year
13 OM cost Sum of annual operation and maintenance costs per year CHF/year
14 OM cost per kW Sum of annual operation and maintenance costs per kW generation capacity CHF/(kW*year)
15 OM cost per kWh Sum of annual operation and maintenance costs per kWh of energy produced CHF/kWh
16 Original currency Currency in which the cost numbers are given in the original source, if not CHF. Use ISO 4217 Currency Codes, e.g. USD, EUR, GBP.
17 Assumed currency conversion rate Exchange rate used to convert the orignal currency to CHF. By what quantity do you have to multiply the original currency to obtain the value in CHF?
18 Output type Type of energy output, e.g. Heat, Electricity (if multiple, input as comma separated list embedded in double quotes)
19 Fuel type Type of fuel used by the technology (if multiple, input as comma separated list embedded in double quotes)
20 Prime mover Source of power of the technology
21 Capacity Output capacity of the technology kW
22 Load Used for part-load efficiency inputs. Input here a comma-separated list of load values. percent
23 Efficiency Or COP for heat pump. For part-load efficiency, input a comma-separated list of efficiency values corresponding with the values in the load entry above. percent
24 Electrical efficiency For part-load efficiency, input a comma-separated list of efficiency values corresponding with the values in the load entry above. percent
